Does any one know..... When a GM chooses to drop a player from the farm or pro roster, does the player get paid their remaining salary? What about the remainder of their contract?
For example, lets say I have a few players I would like to drop from my farm team. For this example, let's day I want to drop Anders Eriksson. Maybe because I need some room on my roster and there is a trade I'm negotiating that would put me over the max roster size of 50 pro/farm players.
Eriksson has 2 years left on his contract (1 1/2 if you consider this year is half over). He is contracted for $1MM per year. If I drop him, do the Kings have to pay his remaining salary for this year? And if so, do they also have to pay him now for the last year remaining on his contract? If the answer to both those questions is "yes", then how does this pro/farm status affect his remaining salary? Is he paid $100k for next year or $1MM?
How does it work in real life? Do we need to mimic real life to keep this SIM "authentic"?
Anyone who would like to share their opinion, please respond. Although the final authority rests with the Commish, I'd like to know the league's thoughts on this.

This is what we have setup right now.
14.4. Releasing a Player A team may buy-out a player at anytime; however, the team is obligated to pay the player's full remaining contract as one lump sum at the time of termination - 100% of his remaining contract out of your team’s balance during the season. Teams may buy-out players in the off-season for 50% of the player’s contract. In other words, if the player has three years left on his contract at $1,000,000 salary per season, a team has to pay him $1,500,000 in order to release him outright during the off-season. Once the player’s contract has been terminated, that player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent regardless of his age. If the player being bought out has retired from the NHL then they will be removed from the League.

personally - i think (and what we use in my league) is you pay out the full salary owed (years x salary per). it helps prevent ridiculous FA offers that you know you will never have to be accountable for

I say we pay 25% of his salary. Why you ask? Simple. If another team picks him up on the Unnassigned List, that said new team will have to pay his full salary. That wouldn't be very realistic. Guy gets a 2M$ a year deal, has 2 years left. You drop him off you pay 4M$, teams picks him up, he still gets 4M$ over the next 2 years. In the real NHL, buyouts often result in other teams giving said player a chance, but not at the salary he had with his previous team. Most of the time he gets way less. (Satan is a good example for Boston. 350K$ or so right?)
